Black Baza -- very thrilling
I almost did'nt see it!! If not for my friend who said it was a black kite!. it was really far, and sat for a very short time. could not get a good shot, but i guess this is good enough for a positive ID.

Wow what a shot! I can imagine the excitement when you saw this rarely seen raptor. Has it been previously recorded in Nandi Hills?

Thank you for the comments guys.
Dr. Pranay, to answer your question, I also posted on BNG birds, and this is what Mr. S Subramanya had to say. 'Unbelievable!!! As I scratch my brain, this is by far the first record of
the species for Nandi Hills. Isn't this place is simply amazing looking at
the species that turn up here?
This is simply a wonderful record.
Congratulations to Pradyumna for this record shot!!'

He also said that the previous unconfirmed record of the Black Baza was in a cage in what was once a mini zoo run by srinath's family in the mid 1980's. and it was not known whether he acquired the bird from bangalore or elsewhere.
